Who has enough time to do it all? In truth, none of us, but some do manage to get more done than others. Look at your typical day. Think about eliminating some or all of these obvious time-wasters:
-
Not having a plan. A daily to-do list avoids forgetting things, and, helps prioritize when a traffic jam or flat tire interferes with your best laid plans. You can scan the list and immediately see what can be shuffled or scuttled.
-
Being tired. When you don’t get enough rest or play, your body and mind don’t work efficiently.
-
Allowing interruptions. Use an answering machine to screen calls. Close your office door. If cornered, get to the point: “What can I do for you?” If you call someone, use your manners. Ask “Is this a good time?” ”Do you have 5 minutes?” Then stick to it!
-
Not involving the family in scheduling. Why rush to a party you later discover no one wanted to attend.
-
Buying the wrong stuff. Leave the handwashables in the store. Decide which dust collectors are really worth the maintenance.
-
Not setting a goal. Make it specific, measureable, realistic. Plan to publish a knitting book featuring children’s sweaters in two years. Make a short term goal. Design a sweater a month for the next 6 months. Knit the sweaters. Take photos in each appropriate season. Write the text. Break the task into manageable chunks.
