Euphemisms

Growing up, my neighborhood hosted a robust mix of salty language interspersed with what have become common substitutes for the less socially acceptable interjections in the English language.  We heard/hear them on a daily basis, some of them more closely related to the “real deal” than others.

Roma Ravioli Soup

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat.  Add 1 chopped green pepper, 1 small onion, finely chopped, 3 large cloves minced garlic, 1 tablespoon dried basil, 2 teaspoons fennel seeds and 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper.  Saute until the vegetables are just tender, about 10 minutes.
