Similiar color schemes, similiar formal interpretations, different presentation. I always tell people who are obviously in angst over making a final glass texture or color choice that there are two things to keep in mind: 1.) Under no circumstances would I remain silent and let something slide through that I think would ultimately be disappointing. My [...]

The term “stained glass” is the lingo for any type of glass that is most commonly put together using the centuries old combination of lead and solder. Even clear window glass that is cut into a decorative design has earned the moniker.
Officially, glass panels that are assembled using clear or colorful art glass, held [...]

Things happen. That’s what the kitchen dealer who shut his doors owing me over $900 said when I inquired about several unpaid invoices. The two larger panels on the right had been installed in their entry way as an additional, hopefully eye-catching display that would lead to more sales, and by the way decorate their lobby…. [...]

Tweaking or totally revamping the color scheme affects the ultimate presentation of a glass panel just as much as changing the color of the walls in your house. Working with glass, an additional dimension to consider is the opacity of the glass that is chosen.
The clear texture used for the border of the panel on the left works because [...]

Amazing how things work out. Haven’t made a rose panel in a very long time, yet the last two customers in a row wanted roses. The first more stylized than the latter–each fitting the personality of the person who ordered each.
See how easy it is to adapt a pattern to suit–changing out the color of the [...]

This house was built in 1941. There have been many changes in its lifetime, but fortunately the original circular-topped door survived the multitude of adjustments–probably because a replacement door with an arched top would require a special order. Translate that to mean expensive.
Originally, the seperate panes were clear double-strength window glass. Nothing special, nothing noteworthy. After drawing an [...]

The tips of the garden tulips are barely showing. In due time, our patience will be rewarded with the seasonal blooms. If you just can’t wait, make yourself a pair of tulips that you can enjoy in the darkest days of winter.
Tiptpoe through the tulips, with me.

“I can do that.” That fateful comment evolved into working at home making Stained Glass Cabinet Inserts. What started as a hobby, evolved into “Job Numero Uno” for a very long time.
Background: our first house was built in the 1890’s. There were transoms over the doors between rooms, as well as over the front door and it’s matching sidelights. Perfect spots [...]

“Do it your Way”
Just like in love, different taste in decor is what makes the design world go round. From the most “simple, understated, yet elegant” look that allows the lines to create a lasting impression, the next logical design direction is to add some color, texture and a moderate amount of flowing lines to the design.
The Calla Lilies add life and movement, [...]

In addition to glass cabinet panel inserts, another favorite spot for stained glass is the valance area–typically between the cabinets that are on each side of the kitchen sink. Usually backlit by daylight coming in the window, the overhead sink task light provides focal point lighting in the evening.
The picture shows the valance before it [...]
