What is your favorite Beatles’ song? Their music is timeless, as current as anything new hitting the air. Most Beatles songs sound and feel like now, not then.
Ringo was on the Rachael Ray Show recently talking about where the inspiration came from for “Octopus’s Garden”. The Beatles were performing in Europe, somewhere near the Mediterranean Sea. On a day off, they were served octopus for lunch while relaxing on a friend’s yacht. A discussion of the habits of an octopus, including the animal’s penchant for moving rocks around, creating a “garden” in their territory followed. One thing led to another–hence the song and its title “Octopus’s Garden”.
My top Beatles’ song is “Something”, although my favorite rendition of the song is by Frank Sinatra. A few years before he died, I happened across the tail end of a video clip on TV of Sinatra singing “Something” to his last wife–Barbara?? It was stunningly moving and beautiful.
Tad ironic that my favorite Beatles song is not their version, but it does lend credence to the original argument that Beatles music transcends generations–backwards as well as forwards.
